What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lateral Firefighter/Paramedic position at City of Coeur d'Alene?
Lateral Criteria: The approved lateral hire program is dependent on the following criteria:
- Must have a minimum of 1 year of completed firefighter work experience with a local Kootenai County Advanced Life Support (ALS) agency; OR
- Must have a minimum of 2 years of completed firefighter work experience with a state, county, or municipal agency; AND
- Must have a current Idaho State Paramedic licensure or have the ability to obtain it within 30 days of hire.
- Lateral entry annual base wage range including paramedic stipend $76,906 - $92,368
- Full pay range for 56-hour Firefighter/Paramedic is $72,072 - $104,686
- Additional hourly pay is available per CBA for FLSA, educational incentive, holiday pay, etc.
- Holiday pay is an additional benefit paid to firefighters annually at the employee's base wage * 264 hours (11 total holiday's)

- Physical Agility Exam: The City of Coeur d'Alene Fire Department will proctor their own physical agility exam in Coeur d'Alene on Monday, 6.2.25. - Interview: Following the physical agility exam, interview will be scheduled for June 3-6, 2025. Only successful applicants passing the physical agility will be scheduled for an interview.

1. 18 years of age by the date of the written exam.
2. High school diploma or equivalent.
3. Valid driver's license and U.S. citizenship.
4. Paramedic license or ability to obtain certification within 30 days from hire.
5. Successful applicants will need to complete and pass the following as a condition of employment:
- Medical Examination
- Thorough background investigation
- Drug and alcohol testing
- Reference checks
Firefighters work 24-hour shifts, averaging 10 per month (2912 hours annually), rotating 48 hours on and 96 hours off. Firefighters also do not pay into Social Security.
