Maintenance Worker - Solid Waste

The City of College Park Public Works Department is looking for a full-time Maintenance Worker for the Solid Waste Division. This position is considered essential, and the person must be willing and able to work long shifts in adverse or emergency conditions.

Some duties include heavy manual labor and the operation of equipment when collecting solid waste, refuse, recycling, and materials, such as lifting and dumping refuse carts and recyclables and repositioning carts after collection. These are in addition to other tasks related to keeping city streets/ neighborhoods clean and free of debris.

The work also involves a variety of manual labor tasks, such as snow and leaf removal. The work occurs outdoors in all weather conditions. The person selected must be able to stoop, kneel, bend, and stand for extended periods.

The minimum requirements for the position are

  • A valid driver's license
  • 6 months of experience in trash, refuse, and recycling collections.
  • Lift items to 75 pounds without assistance and push/pull objects up to 150 pounds.
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment physical and drug screen.

The starting hourly range is from $17.67 to $18.06, depending on experience.
