What are the responsibilities and job description for the Plant Maintenance Operator I/II position at City of College Station?
Under general supervision of the Lead Plant Maintenance Operator, the Plant Maintenance Operator maintains the wastewater treatment plants, water production facilities, and collection system lift stations to provide and protect public health, safety and sanitation while ensuring compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) rules and regulations. Work with potentially hazardous chemicals and equipment in potentially hazardous work areas and environmental conditions.
Plant Maintenance Operator I
This is the entry level class for plant operations maintenance. Incumbents work under close supervision learning and performing aspects of the trade.
- Maintain various water production and wastewater treatment related equipment including routine, preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance.
- Complete work orders and maintain comprehensive records of work performed using computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Follow all safe standard practices, identify safety hazards in the workplace, properly use personal protective equipment (PPE), utilize the proper tools/equipment in a safe manner, and adhere to all programs/policies/ procedures.
- Perform basic facility maintenance tasks (carpentry, plumbing, painting, etc.) and maintain a clean/safe work environment.
- Optimize equipment efficiency by locating sources of problems through observation and using precision measuring and testing instruments.
- Assist with maintaining inventories for equipment, parts, and supplies by checking stock and reporting inventory levels.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Plant Maintenance Operator II
The Plant Maintenance Operator II performs all duties of the of the Plant Maintenance Operator I. This classification is distinguished from the entry level class in that incumbents work under limited and/or moderate supervision performing more complex skilled operations and maintenance duties.
Required: High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalent.
Class A CDL with tanker & airbrake endorsements issued by the State of Texas or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
Possess either Class D Wastewater Treatment or Class D Groundwater License from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) or the ability to obtain within 6 months of date of hire
Ability to obtain either Class C Wastewater Treatment or Class C Groundwater License within two (2) years of hire date
Available for 24-hour emergency response and shift work including on-call duties, after hours, weekends, and holidays as assigned
Preferred: Knowledge of wastewater treatment and groundwater production processes including operation and maintenance
Previous experience with the use of hand tools, heavy machinery, and metal fabrication equipment
Plant Maintenance Operator II candidates must meet all minimum qualifications of the Plant Maintenance Operator I, in addition to the following:
Required: Two (2) years of related experience
Class A CDL with tanker and air brake endorsements issued by the State of Texas
Possess either Class C Groundwater or Class C Wastewater License issued by the State of Texas
