About the Job: In this position, you assist with the daily operations of North and South Slope Recreation Areas, located on Pikes Peak by performing patrols, regular guest interaction and education, and basic maintenance/beautification.

This is a seasonal (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees' Retirement Association).

As a North and South Slope Ranger, you will:
- Interact extensively with the public, greeting and responding to guest questions or requests, providing information about the Recreation Area(s)
- Perform foot and vehicle-based patrols, initiating contact and informing guests of area regulations and environmental concerns
- Maintain regular communication with Pikes Peak- America’s Mountain (PPAM) staff regarding the status of the area
- Assist PPAM Rangers as needed
- Maintain detailed logs and reports of observations, contacts, and incidents
- Assist with emergency situations
- Perform maintenance on trails, restrooms, fish cleaning stations, and other infrastructure
- Perform cleaning, maintenance, and trash removal of facilities
- Safely lead and assist with volunteer projects
- Ability to communicate professionally at all times with a variety of guests
- Knowledge of Colorado fishing regulations
- Ability to safely operate hand and power tools
- Knowledge of basic vehicle and equipment maintenance
Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED
- Prior experience in a customer service environment or natural resources
- Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver’s license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
- Possess, or obtain within three months of hire, and maintain CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and BLS (Basic Life-Saving) certifications
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a Ranger or similar role communicating rules and land management issues with guests
- Prior trail maintenance experience
- WFA (Wilderness First Aid) or WFR (Wilderness First Responder) certification
- Prior experience or training in communicating Leave No Trace principles
Additional Information
Work is performed in an outdoor environment with exposure to extreme weather conditions, high traffic areas, and at an altitude up to 12,000 feet.
This position requires the ability to stand, sit, stoop, walk, climb, bend, and lift up to 60 pounds occasionally.
