About the Job: In this internship position you will be working on identifying and collecting data for the purpose of mapping the North Slope Recreation Area trail systems of Pikes Peak.

This is a seasonal (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees' Retirement Association). Scheduled hours will vary based on department needs. Total hours worked will not exceed 1,500 annually.
As a Pikes Peak America's Mountain GIS Intern, you will:
- Collect, input, and update geographic data for PPAM, specifically focusing on the North Slope Recreation Area trails system of Pikes Peak.
- Analyze spatial data to support park planning, conservation efforts, and environmental management
- Use GIS software to create detailed maps, including park layouts, vegetation coverage, infrastructure, and other park-related features
- Conduct field surveys to gather geographic data, measure distances, and confirm the accuracy of spatial data
- Design maps and visualizations to update visitor information brochures
- Enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate education program
- Completed coursework in environmental sciences or geography
- Experience with ESRI software, ArcGIS Pro, field mapping, and/or Survey123
Environmental Conditions Primary Work Environment - Outdoors at high altitude (14,115 feet) in extreme weather conditions.
Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to hike for long periods of time, often on uneven and rugged terrain.
