Probation Technician
About the Job: As a Probation Technician, you will perform a variety of duties in support of the Probation Department and the court.
Job Type: Full time
Work Schedule: Normal work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. unless working an alternative schedule where hours can be from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., not to exceed 40 hours per week.

As a Probation Technician, you will:
- Interpret and carry out judicial orders in accordance with applicable rules, regulations, and guidelines
- Process intakes, answer phones, and respond to face-to-face inquiries
- Manage cases and records; monitor compliance with court orders
- Use motivational interviewing and evidence-based probation practices to increase compliance with court orders
- Assist clients in positive behavior changes to reduce recidivism
- Research client and case data using various information systems
- Provide testimony in court
- Review records, process paperwork, and maintain physical and electronic case files
- Interview court participants and review court orders; make recommendations to the court based on findings
- Perform financial investigations; create payment plans
- Assist Municipal Court Clerks and Probation Officers, as needed
- Perform rotational duties such as docket duty, greeting and coordinating interpreter appearances and facilitation of Language Line

- Investigating, interviewing, and counseling techniques
- Probation principles, practices, methods, and casework techniques
- Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
Ability to:
- Effectively multi-task and work in a fast-paced and stressful environment
Maintain a high level of confidentiality
- De-escalate conflict
- Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Exceptional organizational, decision-making, and customer service skills
- High school diploma or GED
- Three years of full-time clerical support experience including the preparation of legal documents, provision of customer service, and criminal justice or legal system experience
