Recreation Leader (PT Rec & Camp Support) - (Seasonal Position)
About the Job: As a Recreation Leader you will serve as an excellent role-model for program participants. In this position, you will assist in planning, preparing, and leading activities in areas that may include physical activity, art, music, sports, games, gardening, and field trips for predominantly children ages 5 through 12 as well as adults and middle and high school-aged youth.
Job Type: Seasonal
Work Schedule: Work hours will vary depending upon department needs but will typically be 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. weekdays. Average of 20 hrs. per week. During June/July average hours will be 35 hrs. per week.
This is a seasonal (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees' Retirement Association). Scheduled hours will vary based on department needs. Approximate dates of employment will be February - August 2025. Total hours worked will not exceed 1,500 annually.
Pre-employment Requirements: The job offer will be contingent upon successful completion of all background checks required by the State of Colorado including fingerprinting, Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Child Abuse and Neglect Records Check (Trails), among other pre-employment assessments.
As a Recreation Leader, You Will
This position requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. The ability to work occasionally outdoors in extreme weather conditions is also required. Must have ability to visually and audibly supervise children in a variety of situations. This is a highly public position that includes contact with students, parents, staff, administrators, and partner organizations. Work may consist of ten (10) hour days in summer, with occasional weekend work as needed.

As a Recreation Leader, You Will
- Assist in ensuring the quality of the program
- Assist in the planning, preparation, implementation, and evaluation of age and ability-appropriate programs
- Interact with program participants; participate in all activities
- Observe and record children's behavior following Behavior Management Guidelines
- Comply with facility setup and take down procedures
- Help implement activities for special events
- Develop and maintain good public relations with parents/caregivers and staff
- Assist in providing information to parents/caregivers and children
- Comply with pertinent City and divisional policies and procedures
- Assist staff with the accurate and timely completion of purchasing, personnel, accident, program, and administrative reports
- Report accidents and behavioral concerns to supervisor
- Actively participate in staff meetings and trainings
- Attend all trainings and complete certifications as required
- Age-appropriate programming, developmental and physical disabilities, community health and wellness, safety, and risk management
- Developmental stages for youth
- Utilize good judgment in a variety of settings
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse populations
- Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing across multiple mediums
- Prioritize, think, and work independently; problem solve; and complete tasks in a timely manner
- Excellent leadership skills
- Possess, or obtain within 60 days of hire a First Aid certification
- Possess, or obtain within 60 days of hire a cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification
- Experience in supervision and engagement OR working in a coaching or volunteer capacity
- Customer service experience
