The City of Colton is now recruiting for one (1) full-time Community Child Care Administrative Assistant in the Early Care & Education division of the Community Services Department.
This recruitment will be used to establish an eligibility list for current and future vacancies.
The filing deadline is March 02, 2025, or when 50 applications are received.

DEFINITION :
Under the general supervision of the Community Child Care Director, coordinates office administrative duties for the City's child care program; demonstrates a full understanding of all applicable policies, procedures, and work methods associated with assigned duties. Occasionally assists in the training of lower-level clerical and fiscal positions.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS :
The Community Child Care Administrative Assistant is an advanced journey-level, single-person class responsible for handling office administrative tasks associated with the operation of the City's child care program. Incumbents in this class work independently with little supervision and serve as the primary assistant to the Early Care & Education Program Director.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED :
May occasionally exercise technical and functional supervision over lower level technical and clerical staff.
Essential Functions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : (include but are not limited to the following)
- Perform the full array of duties assigned to classes in the Community Childcare Administrative Assistant function including administrative support, record keeping, payroll, budget and training.
- Assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of program goals, objectives, policies and priorities.
- Perform a wide variety of complex, responsible and confidential duties for supervisors.
- Handle routine personnel, payroll, budget and purchasing duties.
- Research and prepare various reports and statistical data; maintain records and documentation according to applicable Federal, State and local laws, rules and regulations.
- Assist in the planning for staff in-service training.
- Sort and post all incoming and outgoing mail; respond to correspondence independently as assigned; type and proofread reports and correspondence.
- Act as a liaison between the supervisor and clients, school administrators and staff, other City departments and community organizations.
- Interview prospective program applicants, assessing needs and eligibility, and prepare necessary intake documentation.
- Demonstrate a full understanding of applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties.
- Screen calls and visitors; respond to questions and concerns from the general public; provide information as is appropriate and resolve complaints.
- Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education and / or Experience :
Any combination of education and experience that has provided the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for a Community Child Care Administrative Assistant . A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of two years of social service agency administrative experience, preferably in the administration of publicly funded child development programs, and the equivalent of an Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, education, child development, business administration or a related field. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Special Requirements :
Possession of a valid Class "C" California Driver's License is preferred.
Possession of current TB clearance certification.
Bilingual skills are highly desired.

Recruitment and Selection Process :
