Definition
The City of Colton Community Services Department is looking for enthusiastic team players who will be responsible for bringing Play to the community through after-school programs, classes, special events, and other community activities. Individuals shall have a cheerful disposition, excellent customer service skills, and be able to work in a diverse community atmosphere and indoor and outdoor environments.

DESCRIPTION :
Under direct supervision, leads and assists in a variety of recreation activities at a community center, park, playground, recreational area or other city sponsored program / special event. Exercises supervision over lower level staff and volunteers.

- Plan and lead a variety of recreation activities.
- Develop program concepts based on public demand and needs.
- Participate and assist in a variety of recreational activities.
- Perform light park and / or facility maintenance and custodial duties.
- Set up rooms for programs and facility reservations.
- Provide exceptional customer service both in-person and via telephone.
- Process payments and registrations according to the City cash-handling policy.
- Inspect facility for safety.
- Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Use good judgment in dealing with program or customer service issues.
Qualifications
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE :
Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities, is qualifying. A typical way to obtain this knowledge and abilities would be :
Education : Enrolled in and attending High School or General Education Equivalent for candidates under 18 years of age. A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required for candidates 18 years of age and older.
Experience : A minimum of one (1) year of experience in customer service or recreation programs.

Recreational programming for various age groups; basic customer service principles and techniques; basic conflict resolution principles and techniques
Ability to :
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, subordinates and the public; follow written and oral instructions given by upper level staff or supervisors; wear appropriate attire or uniform in a presentable manner; be a source of accurate information; accurately use point-of-sale system, which includes counting money, processing transactions, and policy enforcement; communicate clearly, concisely, and in an effective manner both orally and in writing; facilitate indoor and outdoor activities for participants of all ages and abilities; positively represent the City of Colton in demeanor and work ethic; read, write, and speak English; handle interruptions while dealing with the staff, customers, and the public.
Skill to :
Operate a motor vehicle on City streets.

Temporary / Part-Time Appointments : Temporary / Part-time appointments do not qualify for City benefits, except for those required by law. The City does not belong to the Social Security system. However, enrollment in an alternative retirement program is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 8% of base earnings. There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice.
Eligible for 40 hours of sick time after working 90 days.
