Description
This position assists in customer relations at the Wellness Center; provides membership information and tours to current and potential patrons; receives payments, registrations and maintain/balance cash drawer daily; assists the Member Services Coordinator as needed; and performs related work as required. The incumbent works within a general outline of work to be performed, and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.
The work is considered light-to-medium in nature and involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis, or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy. The work requires the following physical abilities to perform the essential job functions: crouching, handling, hearing, and mental acuity.
Work environment may involve exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, fumes and/or noxious odors, traffic, toxic/caustic chemicals, violence; and spends time working in an environment where errors can lead to significant physical or mental consequences for one’s self or others.
Essential Job Functions
- Acts as first point of contact to members and clients at the Member Services desk. Handles and/or reports daily operational issues to Member Services Coordinator;
- Functions as a role model and resource person to Member Service Representative new hires through demonstration, teaching and mutual consultation;
- Assists Member Service Coordinator as needed. Keeps supervisor/manager informed of activities and of any significant problems or concerns. Keeps manager advised of any problems and concerns related to members’ welfare;
- Receives payments, registrations, maintains and balances cash drawer daily. Accepts and records payments and registrations; assists with daily deposit and other duties as directed. Maintains confidentiality in handling all member information. Assists with maintenance of front desk supplies and resources;
- Assists the Member Services Coordinator with conducting tours for prospective members, coordinating health promotion activities and services, and special events;
- Demonstrates appropriate communication of information to all ages and responds to all customers or member’s requests and needs (i.e. hard of hearing, etc.). Maintains an optimistic and professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to members and coworkers. Shows courtesy, compassion, and respect. Conforms to service expectations;
- Performs such other related duties as may be assigned by authorized personnel; or as may be required in as emergency such as fire, disaster, etc.;
- Performs general clerical work as required, including preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, mail outs, surveys, member contacts, attending meetings, answering the telephone, etc.;
- Attends meetings, workshops, conferences, training, etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills;
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements to Perform Work
- High school diploma or GED
- Six (6) months of relevant prior experience
- Valid South Carolina Class D Driver’s License;
- CPR and First Aide certifications within six (6) months from date of hire

- Knowledge of addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, and/or calculating ratios, rates and percentages;
- Ability to gather, organize, analyze, examine or evaluate data or information and may prescribe action based on such data or information;
- Ability to provide information, guidance or assistance to people to directly facilitate task accomplishment; may give directions or assignments to helpers or assistants;
- Ability to handle or use machines, tools or equipment requiring brief instruction or experience, such as computers for data entry, fax machines, copiers, telephones or similar equipment; may service office machines, including adding paper and changing toner;
- Ability to perform semi-skilled work involving set procedures and rules but with frequent problems;
- Ability to read routine sentences, instructions, regulations, procedures or work orders; writing routine sentences and completing routine job forms and incident reports; speaking routine sentences using proper grammar;
- Ability to perform clerical, manual or technical tasks requiring a wide range of procedures and requiring intensive understanding of a restricted field or complete familiarity with the functions of a unit or small division of an operating agency; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results or occasional exposure to unusual pressure;
- Ability to guide others, requiring frequent decisions affecting co-workers and others who depend on the service or product; works in a somewhat fluid environment with rules and procedures but with many variations from the routine.
