What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Day Camp Counselor for Camp CoMo Kidz (Temporary Position) 2025 position at City of Columbia, MO?
Summer Day Camp Counselor will work under the general direction of the On-Site Camp Director and Recreation Specialist (s). Camp counselor will: plan and direct activities for a unit of campers (10-11) which meet the needs and interests of the assigned group and the overall objectives of the camp; be responsible for the safety and welfare of each camper in the assigned groups; assist in planning and directing all camp events; submit completed paperwork for each session including attendance reports and camper evaluations; assist with facility cleanup; provide correct, courteous answers to verbal inquires; and perform other duties as assigned. Counselors must be able to perform all job duties in extreme heat conditions, including summer temperature of 95 degrees and above.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must: be at least 18 years of age; have minimal experience or training in the area(s) of arts and crafts, outdoor recreation, and swimming; have the desire to work with kids of all ages; have or be willing to obtain CPR and first aid certifications prior to the start of camp; possess and maintain a valid Missouri Driver’s license; attend mandatory staff meetings and in-service training sessions; follow dress code policy; and have excellent customer service skills.

Special Instructions to Applicants
Camp CoMo Kidz (formerly Camp Adventure) will be held for 10 weeks starting on June 2 and ends August 8. Camp will take place at Reichmann Pavilion. Orientation will be held on May 31.
This is a seasonal position. Counselors will be scheduled 23-28 hours the first five weeks and then 45-50 hours the last six weeks of camp when camp numbers increase. All camp staff are required to attend mandatory training sessions. Staff orientation will start the week of May 12; paid training.
Temporary/Seasonal employees do not qualify for sick, holiday or vacation pay. Pay checks are issued bi-weekly.
A temporary employee position is one created and intended to exist for less than one thousand four hundred fifty (1,450) hours in any calendar year. Temporary employees have no seniority, grievance, or appeal privileges. Temporary employees shall have no benefits except as required by law.
A temporary employee position may be full-time, part-time, variable hour or seasonal.
