What are the responsibilities and job description for the Swim Instructor 2025 (Part-time temporary position) position at City of Columbia, MO?
Columbia Parks and Recreation is looking for experienced swim instructors to teach group and private lessons at the Activity & Recreation Center (ARC), Hickman Swimming Pool or Albert-Oakland Family Aquatic Center. Instructors work under the supervision of the Facility Managerial staff. Instructor must: teach classes in a manner prescribed by the Columbia Parks and Recreation Department guidelines; demonstrate all levels of swim strokes as required by the department; teach classes as assigned by the Aquatic Specialist; bend/stoop/twist/reach overhead to demonstrate swim strokes in and out of water; assist in the administration of first aid and water rescues when needed; maintain all class records; maintain effective public relations; maintain an appearance and demeanor that projects a positive, professional images; and assist with department wide special events and programs when needed. If qualified, some instructors may also work as lifeguards.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must be at least 16 years of age. Previous teaching experienced is preferred but not required. Instructors must be currently certified in first aid and CPR or willing to get certified. Must have the ability to prepare legible class notes/reports. Instructors must have the ability to communicate effectively with young people, as well as adults. Purchase of specified uniform (plain navy suit) is required, as well as following established dress code. All employees must attend mandatory staff meetings.

Hours
Group Lessons are offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. During summer. lessons are also offered Monday-Thursday.
