What are the responsibilities and job description for the BUS DRIVER position at City of Columbia?
This position provides safe and efficient bus transportation for the Parks and Recreation participants. The incumbent is responsible for maintenance of the vehicle, the safety of the occupants on the bus at all times, and can evacuate occupants in case of emergency.
The work is considered light to medium in nature and involves lifting, pushing or raising objects, exerting between 50 and 75 pounds of force on a recurring basis and over 100 pounds of force on a infrequent basis. The work requires the following physical abilities to perform the essential job functions: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, fingering, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
Work environment may involve exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, vibration, fumes and/or noxious odors, traffic, moving machinery, electrical shock, heights, toxic/caustic chemicals; and involves heavy equipment and machinery that could result in bodily harm to co-workers or others.

- Responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of the children, staff, and volunteers while transporting to and from park sites and field trips;
- Maintains cleanliness in the vehicle at all times;
- Maintains the working condition of the vehicle and reports any issues to the supervisor;
- Have the ability to evacuate occupants in case of an emergency;
- Know the most efficient bus routes in the City while transporting to and from park sites and/or field trips;
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Must 18 years of age or older;
- Some relevant prior experience;
- Valid South Carolina Class “B” Driver’s License.
- Knowledge of basic addition and subtraction, such as making change or measuring;
- Ability to compare or inspect items against a standard;
- Ability to follow instructions and orders of supervisor;
- Ability to handle or use machines, tools or equipment requiring moderate instruction and experience, such as light off-road equipment; may repair power tools and light equipment;
- Ability to read simple sentences, instructions or work orders; writing simple sentences and completing simple job forms; speaking simple sentences using basic grammar;
- Ability to perform semi-routine work following procedures with occasional problems;
- Ability to perform clerical, manual or technical tasks prescribed by standard practices but which may require computation, the use of several procedures, and the use of independent judgments with obvious choices; requires normal attention for accurate results; and
- Ability to make decisions, requiring very few decisions affecting only the individual; works in a very stable environment with clear and uncomplicated written/oral instructions.
Salary : $15 - $18
