TITLE: LIFEGUARD/SWIM INSTRUCTOR
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Lifeguard / Swim Instructor is responsible for ensuring the safety of the city swimming pool patrons and instructing ARC swim lessons.
REPORTS TO: Swimming Pool Manager (or Acting Manager in the absence of the Manager)
SUPERVISES: None
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Performs daily disinfection of facility including, but not limited to, disinfection of main, and outdoor restrooms, disinfection of locker and shower rooms, disinfection of facility entry, and disinfection of pool decks. Assists in the completions of necessary reports, including but not limited to, daily maintenance and disinfection, daily water test times and results, and patron use. Assists in maintaining the filtration and disinfection systems by cleaning the hair and lint strainers and taking water tests as required. Assists in keeping the facility safe by reporting broken equipment to the Manager as soon as possible. Vacuums pool as scheduled or on an emergency basis.
· Responsible for guarding pool area and maintaining discipline through preventive lifeguarding.
· Teaches group and individual lessons as assigned. Responsible for the completion of all necessary swimming lesson course records (both City and ARC) within 3 working days after the completion of each session of lessons.
· Performs lifesaving techniques as necessary including, but not limited to, rescue of drowning and near drowning victims, removal of victims from the water, and application of backboard procedures. Give first aid help and complete Incident/Injury/First Aid reports. Other duties as assigned.
All work activities shall be conducted in compliance with the Safety and Accident Prevention Plan. Ensures proper ongoing safety training of all staff. Ensures all staff are operating in a safe manner.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Previous experience as a lifeguard and/or swim instructor or experience as a teacher's aide desirable.

A majority of the duties performed by this individual will take place in and around the Colville Swimming Pool. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently work near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
The noise level of the work environment is usually low to moderate.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to climb into lifeguard stanchions, climb in and out of the swimming pool (with or without the use of pool ladders), and to walk up and down stairs. The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects or equipment; stoop, kneel, twist, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear, and smell.
The employee must be able to lift and/or move victims, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 150 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The employee will be required to maintain a degree of fitness and strength to meet the demands of the job.
