TITLE: 8-Month Seasonal Groundskeeper (February 25 – October 24)
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Park Supervisor
SUPERVISES: None
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Performs grounds maintenance and care for City parks and green spaces. Including, but not limited to, lawn care, landscaping, irrigation, fertilizing, snow removal, restroom cleaning and maintenance, and building-related maintenance tasks as well as manual labor duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Mows with power mower and riding lawnmower. Plant, fertilize, and care for trees, shrubs, grass, and annual flowers.
Use hand and power tools to maintain and repair park mowers and other light equipment. Operate a light tractor with attachments. Drive a half-ton pick up and UTVs.
Use hand gardening tools, shovel, pick, hoe, rake, and wheelbarrow. Use gas operated trimmer and/or chainsaw to prune shrubs and trees. Use gas operated weedeater and pull weeds by hand in flower and shrub beds.
Operate and repair irrigation systems.
Maintain and prepare athletic fields.
Collect and remove garbage from trash receptacles and facilities.
Snow removal from City areas. Operate snow blower, side-by-side with plow and shovel snow.
Maintain and make minor repairs to equipment.
Paint and stain buildings, signs, park tables, benches and equipment. Clean and repair City buildings.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND /OR EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Must be at least 18 years old.
One (1) year experience in:
· Landscaping, horticulture, mowing, and grounds keeping;
· Underground irrigation and above ground sprinkler systems;
· Athletic field maintenance and preparation;
· Upkeep of facilities and equipment maintenance, including use and care of power and hand tools.
SKILLS / ABILITIES:
· Ability to read and understand basic operating and maintenance manuals, simple instructions and short memos. Ability to keep and maintain accurate written records and time sheets. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to citizens and other City employees.
· Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.
· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
· Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with the general public and other employees.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
· Valid Washington State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and a driving record free from serious or frequent traffic violations.
· American Red Cross First Aid and CPR or equivalent training.
· Bloodborne Pathogens training.

A majority of the duties performed by this individual will take place in and around City facilities and properties including parks and buildings. While performing the duties of the job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration and unseen hazards such as blood borne pathogens. The employee is occasionally exposed to some danger of toxic or caustic chemicals.
The noise level of the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
