Under general supervision, patrols assigned City areas; monitors and enforces compliance with animal control regulations; responds to animal control and general non-sworn inquiries and complaints from the public; issues citations and warnings; may perform Community Service Officer duties; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Incumbent (s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

•Patrols City streets, neighborhoods, and/or other designated areas; monitors for and locates stray, vicious, trapped, injured, and/or dead wild and domestic animals.
•Captures, secures, and impounds stray animals; transports injured animals to veterinary hospitals; removes dead animals from roadways.
•Assists law enforcement personnel and other agencies by taking pets into custody due to death, emergencies, arrests, and/or police investigations.
•Responds to public inquiries and complaints regarding various types of animal control matters.
•Educates and provides the public with information regarding animal control laws, licensing requirements, owner responsibilities, and appropriate animal care.
•Investigates reports of animal cruelty, nuisances, and potentially dangerous animals; communicates with and advises owners of loose animals.
•Enforces City and State laws, regulations, codes, and ordinances.
•Issues warnings and citations for violations of regulations as warranted.
•Gathers and compiles case evidence; prepares cases for court; provides court testimony.
•Prepares and maintains a variety of records, reports, and documentation.
•Assists the City as a community services officer as needed.
•Performs related duties as assigned.


Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent GED
AND
One (1) year of experience in public contact work and the enforcement of rules and regulations and one (1) year of specific experience in animal training, care, and control.



Required Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess a valid California driver's license and safe driving record.
Euthanasia Certificate  issued  by  the  Los  Angeles  County  Animal  Control  Department is desirable.

Special Requirements:
Must be able to work extended hours as needed, often outside regular business hours.
