JOB SUMMARY
The Switchboard Operator receives visitors in the front lobby of the City of Conroe Police Department and directs visitors to necessary locations or provides needed information. This position also receives incoming phone calls and directs calls to necessary locations or provides needed information.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Must possess high school diploma or equivalent.
Special Requirements:
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of surrounding area, landmarks, services, etc.
- Skill in multi-tasking assignments.
- Skill in handling stressful situations.
- Ability to speak, read and write in English.
- Ability to arrive for duty at an assigned time.
- Ability to sit at a station for extended periods of time.
- Ability to adhere to confidentiality policies.
- Ability to work several consecutive hours in an office environment without the use of tobacco products.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is light and requires the ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.

Must pass background check and pre-employment substance abuse screening as a condition of employment. A motor vehicle record check and job-related doctor's physical exam may also be required. Must pass FBI Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) fingerprint-based criminal background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.
