Building Inspector

The City of Conway is accepting applications for the position of Building Inspector working in the Department of Permits and Inspections. This position is responsible for inspection of new construction and remodeling projects for compliance with the City of Conway’s construction related building codes and ordinances.

Requirements are:

• Knowledge and experience in the construction field. Five (5) years experience in construction, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. State of Arkansas licensed Journeyman or Master Plumber preferred.
• Must hold mechanical, plumbing, or electrical license or have six (6) years of construction experience (footing and framing).
• Ability to familiarize and gain knowledge of the current applicable codes and ordinances.
• Must have and maintain a valid AR driver’s license and the ability to drive city vehicles in a safe and responsible manner.
• Ability to achieve work goals and follow city policies and safety procedures.
• Must be able to work in an adverse physical environment. Must be willing to occasionally work flexible hours depending on the schedule or requirements of the department.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to define problems, establish facts, formulate conclusions and present feasible solutions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, the public, co-workers, other city departments, and elected officials.

Must have or obtain within one year from the date of hire the following certifications:

• Certification as a Licensed HVACR Inspector by the Arkansas Department of Health
• Certification as a Licensed Plumbing Inspector by the Arkansas Department of Health
• Certification as a Licensed Electrical Inspector by the Arkansas Department of Health
