Job Summary:
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in reading meters, recording consumption and checking meter operation.
Examples of work performed: Reads electric, water and gas meters on assigned routes and makes special readings as directed; records meter readings and reviews consumption records to ascertain inconsistencies or discrepancies; determines that meters are functioning properly and reports malfunctions to the proper authority; assigns account numbers; makes route adjustments when necessary; performs related work as required.
Required Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of geographic area of city Ability to write legibly
Ability to operate hand-held meter reading devices
Ability to make simple arithmetic computations and tabulations accurately Ability to operate light motor vehicle
Ability to walk long distances
Ability to bend and stoop repetitively
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions Ability to work in all weather extremes
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees
Qualifications:
High school education or equivalent and TN driver's license required.
Essential Functions:
Must have a valid driver's license. Requires extensive walking, stooping and getting in and out of assigned vehicle. Lifts objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Exposed to harsh weather conditions, all outdoor pollens, vicious animals, and overgrown vegetation. Must be able to use an electronic hand-held device to record the meter readings, and consequently, must have adequate vision and manual dexterity.
