What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utility Worker - Temporary position at City of Cookeville?
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
This is a seasonal position, without benefits.
Job Summary:
Employees in this class are under close supervision. Work performed involves maintenance tasks of an unskilled or semi-skilled nature.
Examples of work performed: works as a member of a leaf removal crew; cleans and maintains equipment and tools; may cut grass with tractor and rotary mower; remove debris from street right-of-ways -amid other city property; load and unload gravel, trash, garbage and other debris; work as part of road repair, curb/gutter or sidewalk construction crew; performs related work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in general maintenance and construction work
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
Knowledge of the operation and minor maintenance of light vehicles and equipment
Ability to carry out simple oral instructions
Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods under unfavorable climatic conditions
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and co-workers
Qualifications:
Must possess a valid Tennessee Driver's license and be able to perform physical labor.
Essential Functions:
Work involves frequent walking, bending, squatting and lifting of items up to 100 pounds. Must be capable of performing laborious tasks over extended periods of time.
