JOB SUMMARY :
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in servicing the wastewater collection system. Examples of work performed : operates hydraulic flushing and television trucks in collection system maintenance; removes roots, debris and other refuse from clogged wastewater lines; installs service lines for new customers; drives dump trucks; operates miniature inspection camera to investigate complaints; checks customer complaints concerning wastewater service, including making physical inspection of connections; locates breaks and leaks in wastewater pipelines and repairs them; assist water system personnel as needed; performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in servicing wastewater systems
Knowledge of state and city traffic regulations
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
Geographical knowledge of the City
Ability to operate assigned equipment
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to operate light motor vehicles
Ability to keep routine records and make simple reports
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
High school education or equivalent is required. Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license and possess or be able to obtain a Commercial driver's license within six (6) months of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Experience in wastewater or water line construction or maintenance preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS : Physical :
Lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds as needed. Perform tasks involving significant physical effort, such as digging trenches, operating equipment, and installing or repairing wastewater lines. Work in confined spaces, deep trenches, and other restricted environments requiring bending, crouching, and climbing. Operate assigned equipment such as hydraulic flushing and television trucks, miniature inspection cameras, and light motor vehicles.
Environmental :
Frequently work in inclement weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow. Handle and work near raw sewage, biological hazards, and pressurized water systems. Operate and work near heavy machinery and roadway traffic, adhering to safety protocols. Work in environments with obnoxious odors and loud equipment. Be subject to call-out for emergency situations requiring immediate response.
