All applicants are required to successfully pass the Physical Agility Test (PAT) before they can receive a conditional offer letter from the City. It is highly recommended that all applicants take the PAT at the outset of the process to allow for multiple attempts if necessary.
You may take the PAT (Physical Agility Test) at one of the three locations listed below. Please note, candidates who complete the PAT before the orientation will be prioritized for interview scheduling. While not required, it is strongly recommended that you complete the PAT as soon as possible before the in-person meeting, which is Step 3 of the process.

DURATION OF SELECTION PROCESS : Approximately 3 to 5 months.
REAPPLICATION PROCESS : Interviewed applicants may reapply one year from the date of their online application.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Enforces laws and ordinances of the City, County, and State. Performs traffic activities, makes arrests and bookings.
Patrols an assigned area on foot or by vehicle. Performs patrol activities, to include pursuing and apprehending subjects, conducting felony stops, conducting teletype checks, controlling disorderly persons, transporting subjects and prisoners, searching for wanted persons, conducting dwelling and ground checks.
Conducts investigations, including crime scenes, deaths, abuse cases, domestic violence, traffic accidents, animal calls, and non-police action calls. Collects disposes and secures evidence. Writes reports and processes paperwork.
Performs traffic activities, including issuing citations, directing traffic, investigating driving under the influence incidents, and arranging for the removal of vehicles.
Responds to rescue calls. Responds to emergencies, including controlling riots and directing evacuations. Performs first aid duties.
Performs other related tasks as required.

HOLIDAYS : 13 days including 2 floating days.
SICK LEAVE : 96 hours annually.
ANNUAL LEAVE : 80 hours in the first year of employment, increasing up to 188 after 25 years.
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE : 5 or 10 days for the death of a family member in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and the City's Personnel Rules and Regulations
HEALTH & DENTAL INSURANCE : Employee pays a small portion of the premium. Employee may purchase coverage for eligible dependents.
LIFE INSURANCE : Term Life insurance equal to 1 x annual salary (up to $200,000) fully paid by the City.
VOLUNTARY BENEFITS : Several plans are available, such as Short Term Disability, Life Insurance, and Critical Illness Policies through payroll deductions.
LEGAL SERVICES : Legal Services available to all employees through payroll deduction.
RETIREMENT HEALTH SAVINGS PLAN : The City contributes $650 annually into an individual account for every employee. Monies from these accounts may be used to pay premiums or medical expenses after retirement.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION : Employees are given the option to defer a portion of their pre-tax salary in the 457 Deferred Compensation Program.
UNIFORM ALLOWANCE : $800 annually
TUITION REIMBURSEMENT : $2,000 per semester ($6,000 maximum annually) for approved college coursework.
EDUCATION & INCENTIVE PAY : Employees with a Master's degree (M.A., M.S., or M.B.A., will receive an additional $50 per month.
MEDICAL SCREENINGS : Medical screenings offered annually in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
RECREATIONAL USE : Employee, spouse and immediate family members seventeen (17) years of age and under are entitled to the benefits below :

VEHICLES : Employees are provided with a 24 hour assigned take home vehicle. There may be a $30 or $60 per month cost depending on distance / miles from residence to the City (see Article 17 of the collective bargaining agreement).
PENSION : Mandatory employee contribution of 10% of salary. Vesting period is 10 years.
