What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intergovernmental Affairs Administrator position at City of Coral Springs?
Under the general guidance of the Executive Director of Communications and Intergovernmental Affairs, the Intergovernmental Affairs Administrator serves an important role in fostering productive relationships with county, state, and federal entities, city-retained lobbyists, and community stakeholders. This position ensures the city’s legislative agendas and strategic priorities are thoroughly prepared, effectively communicated, and adopted to meet the needs of the community. The Administrator performs advanced legislative and administrative work to support the goals and objectives of the city’s elected officials and oversees the planning and execution of intergovernmental activities.
- Cultivates and maintain strong relationships with municipal, county, state, and federal elected officials and their staff to promote collaborative initiatives that benefit the city.
- Informs the Executive Director, City Commission, City Manager, departments, and stakeholders on the status of legislative bills, appropriations, amendments, and projects affecting the city.
- Conducts in-depth research to identify federal, state, and private grant opportunities aligned with organizational goals and programs.
- Monitors and analyzes local, state, and national policies for potential impacts on the city.
- Drafts correspondence, including letters to city-retained lobbyists, the City Commission, constituents, memoranda, and reports.
- Serves as a liaison to the Broward League of Cities, Florida League of Cities, and National League of Cities to support the City Commission fulfill their role with these organization.
- Coordinates and attend community meetings and town halls with elected officials to advance strategic priorities and legislative actions.
- Supports the Education Relationship Officer in building and maintaining cohesive relationships with staff and elected officials from School Board of Broward County.
- Participates in City Commission meetings, workshops, and retreats.
- Undertakes special projects and other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
- Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Public Administration or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
- Minimum of three years of relevant professional experience, including at least one year of legislative experience.
- Advanced knowledge of public policy development and experience fostering positive intergovernmental relationships.
- Preferred Qualification:
- Relevant related work experience in the State of Florida
