What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utilities Service Technician position at City of Coral Springs?
Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform a wide rage of semi-skilled technical work in the maintenance and repair of City water treatment and collection facilities. Employees in this classification perform all work according to established safety standards, codes and regulations applicable to the work. Employees in this classification have previous experience in the trade, and can perform tasks independently, though work remains subject to review and inspection during and upon completion of assigned tasks.
- Performs technical maintenance, replacement tasks and repairs to water treatment and collection facilities and equipment, e.g., pumps, piping, wells; water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
- Prepares and submits work estimates for work orders; locates vendors and contractors to supply materials or labor.
- Performs inspection of facilities; equipment; water and wastewater system facilities and appurtenances to identify existing or potential problems; informs supervisor of breakdown or obstruction.
- Assists in the water valve turning and fire hydrant maintenance program.
- Operates a variety of hand and power tools for both electrical and mechanical repairs, e.g., air wrenches, air hammer, electric drill, saw, air compressor.
- Maintains various mechanical maintenance and repair records and logs.
- Locates and marks City owned utility property and equipment.
- Assists and responds to emergency situations related to water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
- Performs administrative duties including customer contact mostly face to face; paperwork for all jobs, parts used, hours, actions taken; preventive maintenance scheduling.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Two (2) years of experience in semi-skilled utilities maintenance and repair work; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class B Florida Driver's License.
- FDEP Water Distribution Level 3 License, must be obtained within one (1) year of hire.
- Backflow Prevention Certification, preferred.
