Responsible for promoting and protecting the city’s reputation by developing and executing media and public relations strategies using various media outlets in collaboration with the communications team.
This position reports to the Digital Media Manager and requires timely response to citizen and media questions after normal hours of operation. Employees in this position will exercise considerable independent judgment under general supervision but may exercise direct supervision over assigned technical and administrative support personnel.
Key Responsibilities :
- Produces written materials in a variety of formats, including print collateral (press materials, brochures), web and interactive content, speeches, and other thought leadership pieces.
- Develops written materials including press releases, Q&A, and media statements.
- Writes copy and edits content for a range of city marketing and communications material.
- Builds relationships with key media contacts and identifies opportunities to proactively pitch brand and city stories through social media outlets as appropriate.
- Collaborates with the team from concept development to delivery of final product.
- Manages day-to-day media relations / media requests for brand and corporate issues.
- Helps communicate creative ideas in presentations.
- Provides support to PIO for crisis communication with regards to emergency operations and public safety issues.
- Serves as back-up to the PIO with crisis / issues management.
- Assists in managing social media outreach for the city, including serving as city spokesperson to city news.
- Coordinates and develops content of social media accounts and response; consults with various departments regarding outreach and messaging. Plans and organizes live social media broadcasts.
- Analyzes project results and evaluates product effectiveness to provide product and promotional recommendations to management.
- Any other duties as assigned.
