Pay: $3,200.80 min to $3,840.80 mid Bi-weekly
Under general supervision, manages the building inspection, permitting staff and operations; oversees the review of building plans and specifications, and supervises the effective enforcement of building and safety codes, laws, regulations, and standards.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Education and Experience:
Associate’s Degree in Construction Management or related field required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred; AND five years building trades and inspection experience, including supervisory experience as well as experience in managing a successful customer service environment; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required and Preferred Licenses or Certifications:
Under general supervision, manages the building inspection, permitting staff and operations; oversees the review of building plans and specifications, and supervises the effective enforcement of building and safety codes, laws, regulations, and standards.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plans, organizes, coordinates and manages the operations of the permits & inspections work group, including customer service, plan review, building inspection and permitting; coordinates with Director of Community and Economic Development on plan reviews, building code administration, and other related issues.
- Provides leadership, direction and guidance in technical processes and procedures; manages and trains staff; assigns and coordinates tasks and projects, monitors workflow, and evaluates work effectiveness, methods and procedures.
- Reviews and evaluates operations to identify and resolve service issues; meets regularly with staff to discuss and resolve workload and technical issues; reviews staff work for conformance with City codes and Department standards.
- Proposes an operating budget for the Division.
- Holds meetings with builders and contractors as needed to gain feedback and to provide information regarding any procedural changes or repeated violations of code.
- Authorizes the issuance of commercial and residential building and construction permits and Certificates of Occupancy.
- Prepares activity reports for plan review and inspections.
- Administer various Boards and Commissions such as the Board of Construction Appeals and the Zoning Board of Adjustments.
- Confers with contractors and property owners regarding review of plans and interpretation of building codes; examines blueprints to assure plans conform to City codes and ordinances; inspects construction sites as needed to review and resolve technical issues; resolves problems that arise due to structural design or code issues.
- Evaluates and analyzes issues, and recommends solutions; interprets, applies and explains codes and regulations; represents the City at Public Boards and meetings.
- Responds to requests for information and complaints; provides technical information on interpretation of City codes; researches technical issues, and recommends solutions.
- Provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
- Monitors budget and expenditures; manages the collection, analysis and reporting of operational, budget and financial data.
- Manages any third-party inspections when needed.
- Manages and maintains any software for permitting and inspections.
- Able to work with other staff members on plan review and inspections as needed.
- Responds outside of normally scheduled work hours in response to special events, natural disasters, emergencies, or critical incidents as determined by the City.
- Maintains the integrity, professionalism, values and goals of the City by assuring that all rules and regulations are followed, and that accountability and public trust are preserved.
- Cooperates with co-workers professionally to accomplish work efficiently and effectively.
- Has regular, predictable attendance; attendance is a factor in continued employment with the City.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Education and Experience:
Associate’s Degree in Construction Management or related field required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred; AND five years building trades and inspection experience, including supervisory experience as well as experience in managing a successful customer service environment; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required and Preferred Licenses or Certifications:
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
- Certification as a Plumber Inspector through I.C.C. is required or licensed Plumbing Inspector through State Plumbing Board. (Both Residential and Commercial preferred.)
- Certification as an Electrical Inspector through I.C.C. is preferred. (Both Residential and Commercial preferred.)
- Certification as a Building Official through I.C.C. is required or must obtain within one year of hire.
- Certification as a Plans Examiner through I.C.C. is required or must obtain within one year of hire.
- Depending on the needs of the City, may be required to obtain additional technical certifications.

Salary : $83,221 - $99,861
