The Community Services Department is looking for an energetic and motivated individual to educate park users on standards, safety and cleanliness, report problems, provide resources, and manage group activities. Corona has many parks, recreation facilities, and a variety of trails and open spaces.
We are hiring for a part-time Senior Park Ranger, year-round position, may work on weekends and holidays. The program will be scheduled around peak use times that often include afternoon, evening, and weekend hours.Education and Experience:
- Qualified applicants must be at least 21 years of age and have completed 12th grade or equivalent GED.
- Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in park and open space operations, public service, or a related field.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License by date of appointment, to be maintained throughout employment.
- Possession of, or successful acquisition within 3 months of employment, a valid CPR and first aid certification, to be maintained throughout employment.
- PC 832 training must be completed within six months of employment.
- Patrol and monitor public use of parks, recreational facilities, and expanding trail and open space areas by vehicle or on foot.
- Educate and advise the public on standards of safety, civility and cleanliness by explaining and enforcing park policies, regulations and City ordinances relating to park and facility use.
- Open and secure specialized park facilities, skate parks, restrooms, gates and trails.
- Ensure facilities are available for use and in a safe and clean condition; report problems concerning safety, security, sanitary conditions and maintenance needs.
- Provide courteous service to members of the public; respond to requests for service or provide referrals to other departments as appropriate.
- Communicate and respond to low-level calls for service in parks and recreational facilities.
- Coordinate with facility scheduling staff on use of picnic shelters, sports fields and other park amenities to post reserved signs, turn on/off water/power and resolve conflicts and compliance issues.
- Update daily patrol logs; prepare maintenance observation reports, incident, general accident, vehicle accident and employee injury reports, or other required reports as necessary.
- Investigate complaints and disputes in Community Services parks and facilities.
- Answer phones, take messages, and provide general information in the field and office as needed; act as courier when required.
- Patrol designated public spaces and parks at specified times as a deterrent to vandalism and misuse of facilities.
- Provide basic outreach and offer resource materials to homeless in the parks.
- Assist with City and Department sponsored community events, including supervision, event patrol, parking control, and set-up/break-down.
- Identify, remove, transport, or dispose of hazardous materials and hypodermic needles and/or other drug paraphernalia.

THE ORGANIZATION
The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policy making and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members. Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.
The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager's Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works, and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and an Assistant City Manager.
The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2025 is $ 399.1 million with a General Fund operating budget of $ 209.6 million. Corona enjoys a workforce of 922 dedicated employees who provide high quality services to its residents and visitors each day.

Candidates that successfully pass the screening process and are deemed to possess the most desirable qualifications may be invited to participate in a HireVue tentatively scheduled for the week of April 14, 2025. If a HireVue is conducted candidates who successfully pass the HireVue will be invited for an in-person oral interview tentatively scheduled for the week of April 21, 2025. The top scoring candidates from the oral interview will be placed on an eligibility list from which the department may hire. The eligibility list established from this recruitment may also be used to fill the current and/or additional vacancies throughout the City.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a reference / background check including livescan and pass a pre-employment medical examination (which will include a drug/alcohol screening).
