The City of Corona has an exciting opportunity to join our Police Department as a Community Services Officer I/II (Flex). The Community Services Officer I/II performs various non-sworn field and office support duties in support of Police Department operations.  The Community Services Officer II position is distinguished from the Community Services Officer I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgment and initiative. Community Services Officer II level are normally filled by advancement from the Community Services Officer I level; progression to the Community Services Officer II level is dependent on (i) management affirmation that the position is performing the full range of duties assigned to the classification; (ii) satisfactory work performance; (iii) the incumbent meeting the minimum qualifications for the classification including any licenses and certifications; and (iv) management approval for progression to the Community Services Officer II level.The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:   


Knowledge & Education
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. Applications must list education to be able to verify that candidates have met this requirement.  Candidates that do not provide this information will be disqualified from consideration.   
  • Knowledge of basic functions, principles, and practices of law enforcement agencies including crime scene investigations and evidence retention practices and regulations. 
  • Familiarity with city and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
Skills/Abilities
  • Perform technical duties in support of assigned programs within the Police Department.
  • Interpret and apply operational procedures to resolve field situations.
  • Explain department or program operations and services to the general public. 
  • Ensure all work performed is compliant with established or mandated processes.
  • Coordinate, or collaborate, services with other local government or state agencies.
  • Work with members of the business community, civic organizations, and the general public to provide a safe and healthy environment for citizens.
  • Collect, interpret, and apply data.
  • Learn radio codes and procedures.
  • Maintain detailed incident reports including notes and photographs and prepare related correspondence.

Experience
  • Community Services Officer I: none
  • Community Services Officer II: One (1) year of increasingly responsible experience supporting a law enforcement program which involves contact with the public
  • Possession of a valid California Driver’s License, to be maintained throughout employment.

This position is FLSA Non-Exempt- eligible for overtime compensation.

Application Process

Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis until a sufficient number of qualified applications have been received. The deadline for first review of application is Thursday, March 20, 2025, 5:00pm.  Candidates that successfully pass the screening process will be scheduled for an in-person interview scheduled for Monday, March 31, 2025.  Candidates will be notified of their interview time via email.  The top scoring candidates from the oral interview will be placed on an eligibility list and will be contacted by the department to start the background process as vacancies arise.  

Successful candidates will undergo a thorough background investigation with the Corona Police Department which includes but is not limited to the following:

  • No felony conviction(s).
  • Submit to a fingerprint and criminal history check - State and Federal Bureaus.
  • Good moral character as determined by a thorough background investigation.
  • United States high school graduate, GED, or equivalent.
  • No conviction(s) of a serious offense, or numerous convictions of minor offenses.
  • Submit to a polygraph examination.
  • Successfully pass a medical examination 
  • Credit history check, if established, must be satisfactory.

THE ORGANIZATION
The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policymaking and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members.  Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term.  The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.
 
The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager’s Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and two Assistant City Managers.
 
The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2025 is $ 399.1 million with a General Fund operating budget of $ 209.6 million.
