OverviewUnder direct supervision of program manager and professional nursing personnel, and in accordance with Public Health Standards from the Texas Department of State Health services, the TB physician, local health authority and other public health organizations, policies, and practices, renders public health nursing services to individuals, families, and / or special groups. Collect and maintain patient information and determine patient needs as well as the needs of the clinic.Responsibilities
- Assesses the general appearance of clients, elicits medical history.
- Takes temperature, pulse, and respiration and performs other procedures and treatments as assigned.
- Monitors clients for signs of illness at each visit.
- Trains / counsels clients with specific health goals or problems.
- Administers oral medication as ordered.
- Follows current directions about administration and dosages for each medication.
- Takes care to ensure that no errors occur and that medications are given under Texas Department of State Health Servies guidelines.
- Counsels clients on side effects of medications.
- Assess client for drug toxicity.
- Address medical questions as the arise.
- Participates in disease surveillance activities, investigates reports of communicable disease in individuals and the community.
- Enters disease surveillance information into computerized database.
- Performs appropriate screening tests as required.
- Collect selected specimens for laboratory examination.
- Refers patients to external agencies as appropriate.
- Maintains records pertaining to medical history, medication, progress notes, labs, consultations, imaging studies, transfer of patients, and other documentation for case management as guided by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
- Enters information into computerized database
- Provide nurse case management for patients with latent tuberculosis infection.
- Performs other related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
- Non-exempt - Full-time
- Monday - Friday, 8 : 00 am - 5 : 00 pm
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

- Associate's degree or two (2) years technical certification
- Two (2) of experienceLicenses and CertificationsRequired
- A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
- LVN certification with current license to practice by the TX State Board of Nurse ExaminersRequired Within 6 Months of Hire
