Job Summary
This position serves as an initial point of contact to Library patrons, being one of the first faces the community encounters upon visiting. The position works on the front desk, assisting patrons with borrowing library materials, taking payments, setting up accounts, and answering phones. Provides excellent customer service and must be able to promote the library and its mission. Other duties include assisting with programs, shelving library materials, creating library materials and helping staff make the library a warm and welcoming place.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk and hear; use hands to operate equipment, tools and controls; reach, stoop, bend and lift, must be able to stoop to the lowest shelving and reach up to the six-foot shelving; vision abilities required for the job include close vision and ability to adjust focus, must be able to read letters and numbers of books at floor level and at six feet in height. Must be able to verbally communicate with people in person and over the telephone.
Other Aspects of the Job
Must have a High School diploma or GED. Must be able to work evenings and weekends as assigned. This job typically operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and fax machines. Must be able to maintain positive working relationships with City departments and personnel and the public. Must have and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record. Punctuality and regular attendance are required.
