Job Summary: Under general supervision of the Court Administrator, performs the administrative and clerical duties necessary to accomplish the functions of municipal court. Performs duties requiring judgment based on knowledge of the laws and departmental procedures. This position involves extensive contact with the public, serving as the first point of contact in person, by telephone, and by mail. Assists and interacts with the public explaining court processes, options and procedures or providing information. Prepares a variety of technical legal documents. Maintains cases from filing through final disposition. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to entering cases, payments, and case activity in the court’s computer system, preparing case documents, verifying documents and dispositions, scheduling hearings, corresponding with defendants, and filing.
Physical Requirements: Must have good vision to accomplish general office work and for accurate filing; must be able to use hands/fingers for operating a computer and writing for long periods of time; must be able to reach, stoop, bend, and lift boxes weighing 30 lbs.; must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
Other Aspects of the Job: Must have a High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a customer service environment. Accurate keyboarding skills required with the ability to type 40 words per minute. Knowledge of municipal court operations a plus. Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills a plus. Requires strong interpersonal and oral communication skills to interact with general public on a daily basis in a pleasant and professional manner; excellent written communication skills; knowledge of word processing applications and the ability to learn the municipal court application; ability to work with detail-oriented information; ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress, and challenging environment; ability to handle confidential information in a responsible manner; ability to work with a team. A positive attitude, dependability, and good attendance are essential. Required to abide by the Court Clerk Code of Ethics. Must have and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record. Punctuality and regular attendance are required. Must satisfactorily complete a one-year probation period.
