What are the responsibilities and job description for the Street Maintenance Supervisor position at City of Corsicana?
JOB SUMMARY:
Provides working leadership and supervision to Street department employees including patch crew, street maintenance crew, drainage maintenance crew, reconstruction crew and service center operations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates trucks to haul supplies and all types of equipment and performs minor maintenance and preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Inspect work sites before, during and after completion to ensure satisfactory and thorough workmanship and to ensure personnel adhere to safety rules and regulations.
- Operates street sweeper, patch truck and other light equipment as necessary.
- Oversee and assist assigned staff with administrative and operational duties in the daily operation and management of the streets department.
- Assign work activities and projects and monitors workflow and evaluates work products, methods, and procedures.
- Collaborate with the Director of Public Works in the preparation of assigned department budgets and manage and monitor department budgets.
- Prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; submit justifications for needed supplies, material and equipment.
- Maintain records and prepare reports.
- Performs other duties as requested by the Public Works Director.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to bend, lift and climb while making street repairs and repairing/replacing street signs.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures and hazardous chemicals and fumes.
- Able to operate light and heavy equipment, such as street sweeper, front-end loader, motor grader, dozer, distributor, man lifts and tractors.
- Ability to crawl inside and through pipe structures.
- Will often work in ditches/trenches and areas filled with water and mud.
OTHER ASPECTS OF THE JOB:
Must have a High School Diploma or GED. Must have a minimum of seven years’ experience in all phases of street and alley construction, including five years working in a supervisory capacity; knowledge of transit levels and setting and following grade stakes; knowledge of materials and equipment used in street, drainage and alley maintenance and construction; experience in reading plans, prints and drawings; general mechanical knowledge of motorized equipment. Ability to read and write legibly; ability to use computers and other related office equipment. Ability to use a computer for record keeping and information inquiry. Must have basic knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software applications. Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public and other city employees.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:
Must have or have the ability to obtain a Pesticide Applicator’s License and Fuel Tank Operator A within one year of employment. Must have or have the ability to obtain and/or maintain a valid Texas Motor Vehicle Class “A” (minimum) CDL License. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The City of Corsicana has established the goal of a 100% drug and alcohol-free workplace. Applicants will be required to undergo drug and alcohol testing prior to employment and will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment. Punctuality and regular attendance are required. Must satisfactorily complete a one-year probationary period.
