What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wastewater Treatment Operator position at City of Corsicana?
Job Summary Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plants assuring the effective processing of wastewater as required to meet stringent conditions as set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift heavy items weighing up to 50 lbs. Must have sufficient strength to handle tools and to open large valves. Must be able to climb ladders and stairs. Must be able to see, hear and answer alarms and operate push-button and toggle controls. Must be able to climb into and onto and operate light and heavy equipment. Must be able to communicate with inspectors and trainees. Must be able to communicate via telephone, including making and receiving telephone calls; two-way radio; and in writing, including keeping written records, writing reports, and composing written letters and emails. Must be able to tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather.
Other Aspects of the Job
Must have a High School Diploma or GED and knowledge of common safety precautions necessary in the area of work assignment. Knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment equipment and machinery. Must be able to operate tractors, dump trucks, hand-operated valves and other equipment. Must be able to read, write, and communicate with verbal instructions. Must have and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record. Must attend training courses and have the ability to receive a Grade “D” (minimum) Wastewater Operator’s Certificate as issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality within one (1) year of hire date. Must attend training courses and have the ability to receive and maintain a Grade “C” (minimum) Wastewater Operator’s Certificate as issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality within two (2) years of hire date. Punctuality and regular attendance are required. Must satisfactorily complete a one-year probationary period.
