What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ice Arena Specialist position at City of Cottage Grove?
This is an exempt position under the direct supervision of the Recreation Facilities Manager. Parks and Recreation Mission: To create and promote policies, programs, places and services that enable active living for a more vibrant community.

Hours:
October through March:
Sunday through Wednesday Open-3:00pm.
Thursday 3:00pm-Close
April through September:
Monday through Friday Open-3:00pm.
Evenings/weekends as needed for high school games, tournaments and special events.
- Assist with training and supervision of seasonal and part-time employees.
- Assists in maintenance activities and follows preventive maintenance programs for the arena equipment and building.
- Carries out janitorial duties of the ice arena and grounds to ensure a safe and clean facility.
- Coordinate the installation, removal and maintenance of three ice sheets including flooding, shaving, painting and ice conditions monitoring.
- Customer service; provide information and assistance on the phone, email and in person.
- Inventory, organize, order and maintain department supplies and equipment.
- Monitors equipment, keeps accurate records, identifies and reports any problems to the Recreation Facilities Manager.
- Refrigeration and maintenance on call 24/7 and Manager on Duty for high school games and tournaments.
- Responsible for regular operation of ice resurfacer and ice maintenance equipment including edging, blade changes and other routine service.
- Responsible for security of the building.
- Perform all other necessary duties as apparent or assigned.
- Two-year post-secondary degree or higher in an ice arena, recreation, operations management or related field or equivalent work experience.
- Two years of related work experience in an ice arena or similar recreational facility where you directed the work of others.
- General knowledge and comfort working with HVAC systems, building functions, refrigeration, small tools and vehicles.
- Experience in basic ice arena equipment maintenance.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to work a variety of shifts.
Desired Qualification
- Certified Ice Technician (CIT) certificate from US Ice Rinks.
- Ability to develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships with city staff, staff of other agencies, community groups and the public.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, residents, city staff and the public.
- Considerable ability to use creativity and sound judgment to resolve differences and respond to challenges.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to thrive in a busy and constantly changing work environment.
Salary : $69,410 - $86,757
