What are the responsibilities and job description for the Skating Instructor position at City of Cottage Grove?
To teach skating to participants in a group setting that focuses on both skill development and fun. Communicate expectations of drills and evaluation processes in a clear and concise manner.
- Teach skating skills in a group setting that will most effectively improve each skater in a fun atmosphere.
- Assure all skaters receive appropriate attention to improve with each session. No skater should be left behind. Skaters who excel or fall behind should be recommended to be moved to the more appropriate class for their skill level.
- Wear appropriate uniform which includes: Cottage Grove Skating School jacket, skates, and warm enough clothes to keep comfortable throughout the session.
- Communicate with students, parents, and other instructors to assure both the instructor and student understand expectations of the skating school and to review progress of skaters throughout each session. Document attendance and skill development.
- Teach lessons in a manner that makes the most efficient use of time. Instructors should have session plans ready prior to getting on the ice.
- Assist with getting skaters on and off the ice each session so that skaters and/or parents do not feel lost or ignored.
- Understand full skating school programs and operations so that customer questions and comments can be handled at the instructor level whenever applicable.
- Establishes and promotes a favorable rapport with skate school participants, parents and/or guardians.
- Demonstrates ability to routinely teach skaters the appropriate skills to pass specified skating levels.
- Represents the skating school and ice arena in a courteous, informative, and enthusiastic manner.
- Minimum of Freestyle Level 4.
- Knowledge of various teaching methodology for ice skating. Must be able to combine both skill development and fun into each session.
- Experience in communicating with customers which would include young children and adults.
- Experience in evaluating skating skills
- Ability to follow and give written, and oral instructions adhere to prescribed routines, work a varied schedule.
- Coaches must have an ISI Professional Membership to teach private lessons.
