Role Overview
The City of Covington is seeking a Communications Manager to lead the public relations, marketing, and strategic communication efforts across the city. In this critical role, you will develop and execute comprehensive marketing strategies, manage media relations, and ensure consistent, clear communication with the public, media, and city stakeholders. This position requires a skilled communicator with experience in building relationships with the media, managing high-pressure situations, and delivering effective messaging that aligns with the city’s mission and values.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing & Communication Strategy:
• Develop and execute the City of Covington's strategic marketing and communication plans.
• Oversee the creation of marketing materials, including content for the city website, social media platforms, email campaigns, print materials, and presentations.
• Maintain consistency in branding and messaging across all communication channels.
Media Relations & Reputation Management:
• Build and maintain strong relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets.
• Serve as the city’s spokesperson in high-pressure situations, ensuring timely, accurate, and strategic messaging.
• Monitor media coverage and public sentiment, providing insights and recommendations to city leadership.
• Prepare and execute press releases, email campaigns, promotions, and manage external events.
Community & Government Engagement:
• Collaborate with city leadership and government teams to align messaging across communication channels.
• Work closely with community organizations and constituents to develop and implement impactful communication strategies.
• Attend and support city and community events to assist with public engagement efforts and outreach.
Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field (required).
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in public relations, marketing, or communications.
• Proven experience in media relations, reputation management, and content creation.
• Strong writing skills with the ability to craft compelling and data-driven messages.
• Knowledge of advanced online advertising and marketing strategies.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, web content management systems, and marketing design platforms.
• Experience with CRM mailing campaigns is preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver strategic communication initiatives effectively.
