JOB SUMMARY

This position will investigate and resolve phone and computer software/hardware problems, construct, install, monitor, repair and maintain communications systems and equipment.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT

Information Specialist I (GD 17)

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office products.
  • Familiarity with VOIP phone systems
  • Familiarity with IP Security Cameras
  • Familiarity with Ticketing system

Information Specialist II (GD 19)

  • Minimum two years’ experience with Microsoft Windows Server Version 2012 or higher
  • VMWare VCP Version 7 Datacenter or higher
  • VMWare VCP Desktop Version 7 or higher
  • Minimum two years’ experience with firewalls
  • Minimum two years’ experience with network protocols and design
  • Familiarity with fiber optics

  • Plan, Install, Configure and Upgrade vCenter Server, VMware ESXi, configure and build VMWare servers and desktops
  • Manage, supervise and provide technical advice on telecommunications systems
  • Receive feedback, identify users’ needs and requirements and mobilize existing technology to meet their criteria
  • Document plans, requests, activities and specifications and report on them to the IT Manager
  • Program features, design networks and systems and allocate resources as necessary
  • Monitor and test systems and peripheral equipment and troubleshoot problems
  • Evaluate systems performance level and improve capabilities as needed
  • Oversee and coordinate telecommunications activities
  • Purchase electronic equipment and make budgetary recommendations
  • Cooperate with management to develop staff in other departments and improve their skills
  • Provide orientation and guidance to users on how to operate financial, purchasing, utility billing and customer service software.
  • Set up workstations with computers and necessary peripheral devices (routers, printers etc.)
  • Check computer hardware (HDD, monitors, keyboards etc.) to ensure functionality
  • Install and configure appropriate software and functions according to specifications
  • Develop and maintain local networks in ways that optimize performance
  • Ensure security and privacy of networks and computer systems
  • Provide orientation and guidance to users on how to operate financial, purchasing, utility billing and customer service software.
  • Perform troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve problems (repair or replace parts, debugging etc.)
  • Maintain records/logs of repairs and fixes and maintenance schedule
  • Identify computer or network equipment shortages and place orders
  • Familiarity with MS Office and databases
  • Collaborates with vendors to determine the most cost-effective solution possible while meeting business needs
  • Serve as the first point of contact for customers needing technical assistance via phone or email

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

(A) Two-year degree from an accredited college or technical school with major in computer science or programming or

(B) High school graduate with extensive experience in computer programming, computer application and software installation.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Considerable knowledge of the methods and operation of computer equipment, and information processing as well as phone systems.
  • Adequate interpersonal and organizational skills Team player with customer service orientation
  • Respectable knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles
  • Ability to train users of information system in the operation of the computer, the preparation of input data, and in verifying and correcting output.
  • Familiar will telephone and data cables wiring, circuits, digital computers, IP Phones, servers, optical fiber, security cameras, firewalls and all related systems and devices.
  • Considerable knowledge of software applications, installation and maintenance.
  • Skill in the operation of personal computer using MSDOS, WINDOWS (3. *, 95, NT) and or UNIX Systems.
  • Ability to operate keyboard for data entry on computer.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to plan work so as to accomplish timely and accurate results.
  • Ability to sit (more than 70% of time) in chair with back and operate keyboard.
  • Ability to flex fingers (more than 70% of time) in order to operate keyboard.
  • Working knowledge of networking equipment including switches and routers.
  • Experience with the following operating systems – Windows 10, Mac OS, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019
  • Experience with Office 365 and Microsoft Exchange environments
  • Experience with Active Directory and User Management

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Valid State driver’s license Class C. Good driving record for last 3 years.
