ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Aquatics Manager supports the Aquatics Manager in overseeing all operations and programs related to the aquatic facility, ensuring the safety, cleanliness, and effectiveness of programs and services. This role is also responsible for supervising aquatic staff and provides leadership to ensure a high-quality services and programs while maintaining a positive atmosphere. Works with Aquatic Manager to implement a variety of recruitment strategies for aquatic personnel and effectively market aquatic activities and events in various media platforms. Assist with planning and implementing American Red Cross training and certification programs. Administer surveys to gauge satisfaction levels, feedback and foster ideas. Assist in planning, developing and monitoring aquatic budget. Ability to work in all aspects of aquatic operations including but not limited to daily maintenance, lifeguarding, swimming instruction and customer service. Assist manager and parks personnel to initiate spring set up of pool facility, order supplies for the summer season, and assist with training and preparing staff for the season. During the summer, cover shifts for staff when needed, assist with swimming lessons and other aquatic programs when needed. Assist manager and parks staff with closing facility down at the end of the season. Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and 1 weekend a month. Assures safety of facility by complying with all state and local health codes, building codes, industry standards and guidelines. Maintains the aquatic operating system including filtration, heating, and water chemistry. Establishes and enforces facility rules, regulations, and policies fairly and tactfully. Maintains a harmonious working relationship with other city employees, agencies, and special groups by amiable and cooperative contacts. Promotes a positive image of the facility by planning, developing, implementing, and monitoring the facility's equipment and personnel, and by sharing maintenance responsibilities with Parks’ Maintenance staff. Continually seek initiative in finding ways to improve and enhance overall aquatic operations. Maintains a competitive edge through ongoing training and professional development. Ability and willingness to complete staff level tasks, including, but not limited to, daily maintenance, lifeguarding, swim instruction and customer service. Ability to render aid in an emergency and complete the required documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience in aquatics, lifeguarding or management is preferred. Lifeguard certification (or ability to obtain them prior to starting). Strong leadership and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A passion for swimming and commitment to promoting water safety. Must be able to work some evenings and weekends.
SKILLS:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate with a wide range of individuals. Must have strong computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office software and social media platforms. Experience with recreation software is preferred. Familiar with cash handling procedures and point of sale systems. Knowledge of workplace safety policies pertains to small equipment and chemical handling. Knowledge of emergency procedures and follows chain of command. Maintain accurate records related to staff, program enrollment, and safety audits.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High School graduate or GED Certificate; American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to work outdoors for prolonged periods of time, regardless of weather. Ability to lift, move and operate pool equipment and supplies up to 50lbs. Ability to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time, perform swimming rescues, and spend extended periods of time in the swimming pool.
MENTAL DEMANDS:
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate others, and maintain professional poise in all situations. Must be able to make decisions independently, problem solve and exercise good judgment under pressure and in emergency situations. Must be self-disciplined, responsible and be able to stay alert for extended periods of time.
WORK EXPERIENCE
One-year full time or multiple summer experience in pool facility operations, coordination and staffing development, aquatic programming including but not limited to swimming lessons and water exercise. Supervisory skills a plus.
