What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Works Maintenance Technician position at City of Crandall, TX?
To perform a variety of tasks in support of the Public Works functions including effective maintenance, support and mechanical service for water utility service. Performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City water facilities and systems.
General supervision is provided by the Public Works Director.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Responds to complaints regarding water leaks, pressure loss or no water; evaluate situation; explain findings to Supervisor.
Reads, reports, and maintains water meters; ensures functionality and accuracy of reading; responds to customer inquiries or concerns regarding meters.
Cuts, fits, lays, repairs taps, cleans and flushes water mains, pipes, valves and fittings on repair of mains and services installation of services, fire hydrants and meters, and assist in shutting off broken sections of water mains.
Checks and evaluates inventory for parts and equipment needed; accurately tracks supplies, materials, and equipment used for repairs.
Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including ditch digging, main and pipe repair, laying pipe and backfilling.
Mowing, picking up litter, maintaining drainage ditches and culverts.
Provides customer service to the residents for all water, wastewater, storm water, and road maintenance inquiries and concerns.
Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED. Some knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities of a utility department. Skill in operation of saws, pumps, generators, common hand and power tools, shovels and ditch witch. Possession of a valid Class C Texas driver's license.
Special Requirements
Perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time. Work safely, ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Understand and carry out written and oral instructions. Operate a motor vehicle. Pass a medical physical examination and drug test. Meet the City's driving standards
Miscellaneous Information
Some knowledge of the use of heavy equipment, the use and care of tools and specialized equipment. Use of power and hand operated tools. Operation of equipment for street repair. Handling field construction conditions.
