General Summary: Conduct law enforcement operations for the City of Crete. Control crime, maintain order, and provide services to the Crete community. Report to the Patrol Supervisor. Full-time, hourly position (subject to on-call and shift rotation).
Desired Qualifications: Any combination of work experience and training that allows the duties and responsibilities of this position to be achieved. Sanctioned with the State of Nebraska to be able to perform as an officer of the law. Preference will be given to applicants documenting successful experience in like or similar positions who are NLETC certified in Basic training. Preference will be given to applicants who are bi-lingual in English & Spanish, but is not a requirement of this position. Must reside within 30 minutes from Crete, Nebraska.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Effectively participate in patrol functions (direct and control traffic, enforce laws, write citations, make arrests, transport arrestees, quickly respond to reported crimes/accidents/emergencies, investigate crimes/accidents, complete reports, maintain records, monitor and use communications equipment, operate a motor vehicle, utilize communications/warning/speed detection equipment, adhere to accepted procedures, etc.).
- Effectively perform routine maintenance on facilities and grounds, vehicles, equipment, and weapons (perform regularly scheduled service checks, visual inspections, and maintenance as required or indicated).
- Effectively interact with citizens in residential areas, business districts, schools, and industries to identify and solve community problems (Gather pertinent information regarding these problems, list possible courses of action, select the most favorable course of action, develop a plan to execute the plan, present plan to the chain of command for approval, implement approved plan, evaluate implementation, etc.).
- Accurately complete all required records and reports.
- Effectively advise the Chief of Police, Police Captain and Police Sergeants on all matters related to patrol operations.
- Effectively respond to assignments from the Police Sergeants, Police Captain and Chief of Police.
