The City of Cripple Creek occupies approximately 1.5 square miles on the southwestern slope of Pikes Peak in Colorado's majestic Rocky Mountains. Sitting at 9,494 feet above sea level, the City is located only 44 scenic miles southwest of the City of Colorado Springs.
Cripple Creek is a full-service City and tourist destination. Located nearby is Colorado's largest operating modern gold mine. Along with a friendly and neighborly atmosphere for residents and visitors, the City offers the excitement of gambling (one of only three cities in Colorado), family-oriented attractions and activities, outdoor adventure, and the opportunity to step back in time while enjoying the rich history of the City and surrounding area.
The Marketing and Events Department, through the direction of this position, is responsible for the successful marketing of the City, all tourism related activities within town, and all aspects of producing and executing events owned by the City or those where the City has a significant share in the event. The Director will identify the necessary focus for destination marketing efforts based on direction from City Council and Administrations, the City's Annual Goals and Objectives, and the current trends in destination tourism. The Director will also have web content/internet marketing duties and responsibilities such as writing, editing, and proofreading new content for applicable City websites and social media. The current structure of the department includes one other full-time employee.
The City is seeking a professional person of character with a commitment to high ethical standards, transparency, and honesty; proven management and leadership experience in multiple marketing mediums; successful planning and executing of events; and responsible budget management.
Other desired competencies and characteristics include performing physically demanding tasks for events; the ability to prioritize tasks; excellent time management, problem prevention and problem-solving skills; a high degree of creativity and latitude with the ability to graphically design basic marketing material and provide creative direction to others; the ability to meet time demands while executing events; and the ability to work with multiple stakeholders and foster positive relationships between different organizations, entities and the public.
Minimum qualifications are at least two years of college-level business-related education, or substantial experience in developing and executing festival-type special events and marketing related processes; three or more years of office experience preferred. Other combinations of education and experience which provide the skills required for the job may be substituted for listed requirements.
