What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Worker I - Facilities Division position at City of Crystal Lake?
Under the direction of the Fleet & Facility Superintendent, this individual is responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled building maintenance tasks for City-owned buildings, including cleaning, routine preventative maintenance, painting, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC repair, lighting, minor electrical work, and recordkeeping. Snow/ice control duties during the winter months is required. The position requires a professional and courteous manner when dealing with the public, vendors, contractors and other City employees.
The successful candidate must possess a high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by specialized or technical training or shop courses along with a working knowledge of mechanical equipment used in construction and maintenance of public facilities, including carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical, including prior experience with operating basic hand tools and equipment.
Qualified applicants need good organizational and time management skills, demonstrate the ability to effectively solve problems, exercise good judgment and be detailed oriented. This position requires the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Some weekend or night hours may be required, as circumstances dictate for building maintenance, or when winter weather requires snow/ice control work.
Candidates should have a valid Illinois CDL Class B driver's license or the ability to obtain one in six (6) months. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit. Salary range for this position is $27.16 to $33.40 (depending on qualifications) with a comprehensive benefit package, including participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund pension plan.
