What are the responsibilities and job description for the WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR (WSI) position at City of Crystal?
Under direction of the pool manager, to provide swimming instruction of the highest quality to all participants. To provide instruction that challenges each participant to reach their full potential while experiencing success. To accomplish the above in a safe, positive and enjoyable environment. Must have a valid Red Cross WSI certificate, Red Cross Lifeguard Training certificate, Red Cross CPR/basic first aid certificate, and be at least 16 years old.
$18.50-19.00/hour.
*TRAINING REIMBURSEMENT: at the end of the season, we will pay you $110 toward the cost of your certification if you work the entire season with us, and participate in staff training.
Administrative
To accurately record students progress on Red Cross forms.
To complete and submit certification forms.
To keep class attendance.
Teaching/Supervision
To provide a safe water experience by knowing and enforcing all pool rules and prevention of accidents.
To know the pool EAP.
To teach lessons with the approved format.
To evaluate swimmers on skill knowledge.
Public Relations
To be friendly, helpful, cheerful to the students, the public and other staff.
Valid Red Cross WSI certificate.
Valid Red Cross Lifeguard Training certificate.
Valid Red Cross CPR/basic first aid certificate.
Through knowledge of swimming, teaching skills and techniques.
Is acquainted with a variety of different phases of water safety.
A strong desire to help people learn to swim.
Minimum age: 16.
Certifications in First Aid, Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor.
Communications: Must have ability to actively listen to others for understanding of their needs and situations; ability to speak and write English clearly; ability to give directions and guidance clearly.
Decision Making: Must act in a decisive manner, using good judgment. Must be able to assess problems and situations, able to anticipate needs, evaluate alternatives and use discipline as needed. Must have a knowledge of the use of available resources, including a thorough knowledge of programs, facilities and their characteristics. Ability to work independently. biases from work performance. Must have the ability to work the assigned areas and hours.

Technical Knowledge: Certifications in First Aid, CPR, Lifeguard Training, and Water Safety Instructor required.
Physical Abilities: Normal vision needed with or without correction. Capable of reaching (extending the hands or arms in any direction); handling (seizing, holding, grasping, turning and otherwise working with the hands); and fingering (picking, pinching, or otherwise working with the
fingers).
