The City of Cupertino Parks and Recreation Department is hiring Assistant Pool Managers at
Blackberry Farm Park for the 2025 operating season (late April to early September).
Definition:
The City of Cupertino Parks and Recreation Department is hiring Assistant Pool Managers for the
2025 operating season (late April to early September). Assistant Pool Managers help supervise the
lifeguards/swim instructors and the pool facility at Blackberry Farm. The position requires
excellent lifeguard skills, quick and accurate decision making, exceptional customer service, and the
ability to lead a team.
Class Characteristics
Assistant Pool Manager is a seasonal part-time, temporary, non-benefited, and at-will position from
late April 2025 through early September 2025. It is also limited to no more than 995 hours per
fiscal year. Applicants must possess all relevant certifications before the first day of employment.
Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different
positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the
essential functions of the job.
• Assists pool managers with daily tasks such as checking pool chemicals, filling out reports,
managing a team of lifeguards, administering swim tests, and maintaining a clean and safe
facility
• Helps plan and lead bi-weekly trainings and staff meetings as scheduled
• Acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an
emergency
• Ensures that the Emergency Action Plan is being followed in the event of an emergency
• Provides emergency care/treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical
services
• Sets a good example by presenting a professional appearance and attitude at all times
• Maintains a high level of customer service
Knowledge of:
• Understand safety precautions in and around the pool
• Customer services best practices
Ability to:
• Must be responsible, alert, courteous, and punctual
• Must be able to communicate with peers, supervisors, and patrons
• Must be available to work weekends and evenings
• Must be able to provide own transportation to and from work
• Must be able to lift a maximum of 50 pounds
Education and Experience
• Must have at least two seasons (or 300 hours) of recent paid lifeguarding experience, and one year (30 semester units) of college coursework
• Must be a minimum of 18 years old
Licenses and Certificates
• Must possess current Red Cross certifications: Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
