Overview
The Criminal Intelligence Analyst performs criminal intelligence research and analysis work. This consists of collecting, processing, and disseminating a wide variety of data and information between and among local, state, and federal jurisdictions to support and enhance the successful investigations and prosecutions of individuals and groups engaged in criminal activities. Work involves operational intelligence support for field officers and ensures the public safety of the citizens of Dallas, analyzes criminal suspects, and offenses information, and forecasts trends using microcomputers and related intelligence software programs.
Essential Functions
1 Collect and analyze information concerning ongoing criminal activity; perform research, analyze data, and make recommendations for suppression of crime.
2 Provide field officers and investigators with specific information upon request.
3 Collect, analyze, and summarize data collected and disseminate pertinent documents to aid investigations in criminal cases.
4 Collect and analyze information concerning ongoing criminal activity.
5 Conduct and provide cross-case link analysis using computerized databases to identify relationships between crimes and criminal suspects.
6 Use teletype and/or computer terminal to access driver licenses, criminal records, various agency files, NCIC/TCIC, and vehicle registration databases to identify subjects.
7 Review daily crime statistics, bulletins, incident reports, and CAD in order to identify wanted and active criminal suspects, stolen vehicles, and other offense patterns.
8 Prepare and disseminate reports and relevant information to appropriate consumers to assist in coordinating intelligence, investigative, enforcement, and prevention activities performed by the department and other agencies.
9 Attend intelligence, investigative, and law enforcement information-sharing meetings.
10 May present testimony at preliminary hearings, grand jury proceedings, and trials.
11 Perform other work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
1 Knowledge of the functions and organization of local, state, and federal government; of law enforcement operations and procedures; and department safety policies, methods, and procedures.
2 Knowledge of various sources of data, methods of obtaining data, and techniques used in the analysis of data.
3 Knowledge of computers and related systems to develop programs used for data collection and analysis purposes.
4 Ability to plan and organize assigned work priorities and handle a variety of assignments.
5 Ability to recall facts obtained in research of criminal investigation data and to critically evaluate information from multiple sources and determine the importance and limitations of each piece of information.
6 Ability to explain and demonstrate various aspects of the job and serve as a role model to other employees.
7 Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
8 Ability to maintain security and integrity of all information.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or GED
Experience
Three (3) years of experience as a crime analyst or intelligence analyst working for a local, state, or federal law enforcement agency.
Equivalencies
- An associate degree in a criminal justice, forensic science, terrorism/counterterrorism, cyber security, information technology, geographic science, political science emergency management or related field plus one (1) year of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
- An associate degree (or higher) in a non-specified field plus two (2) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a criminal justice, forensic science, terrorism/counterterrorism, cyber security, information technology, geographic science, political science emergency management or related field will meet the education and experience requirements.
Licenses
- Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
Other Requirements
- No felony or class A misdemeanor convictions.
- No class B misdemeanor convictions in the last ten (10) years.
- No family violence convictions.
- Cannot currently be on deferred adjudication for any felony, class A or class B misdemeanor.
- Availability for varying shifts, nights/weekends/holidays
Salary Range
$25.87 - $30.04
