Responsible for conducting detailed investigation of incidents involving City vehicles, equipment, and employees.

Job Description

Overview
The Incident Investigator facilitates and ensures all incidents involving City vehicles, equipment, and employees are investigated and documented in accordance with Administrative Directive 3-3 Driver and Equipment Safety Program.
Essential Functions
1 Responds to and investigates motor vehicle or equipment incidents; documents damage to the vehicles as a result of vehicular accidents, vandalism, or comprehensive damage; photographs incident scenes, vehicles, and evidence; interviews drivers, witnesses, and passengers and determines conditions leading up to an incident.
2 Conducts examinations of vehicles and vehicle parts and documenting findings; performs and delivers accident reconstruction analysis as needed.
3 Documents, reports, and creates incident scenes and prepares accident reconstruction reports and scene diagrams.
4 Reviews the root cause of vehicle and equipment incidents and ensures that unsafe acts and conditions are addressed through corrective action plans through the Office of Risk Management (ORM) Safety Division.
5 Ensures compliance with all written procedures, work instructions, and Administrative Directives (AD); reviews monthly performance reports with management.
6 Works with ORM Liability Division and City Attorney’s Office on cases as required and may act as an expert witness as needed; consults with and provides information and assistance to emergency personnel, citizens, city employees, department supervisors, managers, and other individuals as needed.
7 Provides training and updates to supervisors on compliance measures with post-testing requirements for any vehicle or equipment outlined in AD 3-49 Drug and Alcohol Testing of Applicants and Employees.
8 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
1 Knowledge of traffic laws, City Personnel Rules, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Dallas Police and Dallas Fire and Rescue Departments, Texas Code, Driver Safety Administrative Directives, International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and City Safety Program.
2 Knowledge of motor vehicle law enforcement, traffic direction, interviewing, report writing and presenting court testimony.
3 Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of accident investigation.
4 Knowledge of geography, physical and social characteristics of the city.
5 Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
6 Ability to accurately diagram accident scenes.
7 Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public in all situations.
8 Ability to develop administrative, technical and investigative skills
9 Ability to safely operate van-type vehicles and two-way radios.
10 Ability to remain calm under stressful conditions.
11 Ability to draft and create root cause analysis reports.
12 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
13 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience
2 years of experience in law enforcement, investigation, or criminal justice.
Licenses and Certifications
Texas Driver's License
Education
Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or Investigation

Salary Range

$58,204.45 - $72,343.93

The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
