Overview
The Supervisor- Sanitation supervises, supports, and provides leadership and management to employees performing sanitation work and related activities. Sets schedules, supervises safety, monitors crews, and provides performance feedback and assistance.
Essential Functions
1 Supervises, oversees, monitors, and supports crews and personnel providing sanitation activities for the City of Dallas; delegates work, oversees licensing and safety, tracks schedules, and monitors performance for evaluation.
2 Assigns, directs, and checks work of employees and provides technical guidance and expertise.
3 Implements, plans, schedules, and determines objectives needing emphasis; identifies sanitation concerns or issues, tracks work orders and progress, supports goal setting and accomplishment, and facilitates crew success.
4 Provides support, training, instruction, and identifies training needs for employees; ensures all licensing and permits are current and up to date.
5 Identifies and determines deficiencies in performance and researches and implements methods to improve production or effectiveness; provides performance feedback to staff and makes recommendations for changes.
6 Creates, recommends, and executes plans and schedules and determines objectives needing emphasis; communicates and collaborates with managers and other stakeholders to identify goals.
7 Performs any and all other trades work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
1 Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
2 Knowledge of how to operate and care of specialized equipment such as a roto boom.
3 Knowledge of standard colors, configuration, and placement of lane markings and traffic sign.
4 Ability to perform a variety of manual labor for extended period of time and in all types of weather conditions.
5 Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work with heavy equipment.
6 Ability to follow oral and written instructions, read charts, and maintain written records.
7 Ability to work in a fast paced environment with constant awareness and attention to detail of safety guidelines.
8 Ability to facilitate success of crews and personnel performing sanitation work throughout the City.
9 Communicating effectively and in writing.
10 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE:
- Four (4) years of experience in sanitation routing, collection and/or solid waste disposal.
AND
- One (1) year of supervisory or lead work responsibilities. (This experience may be included in the required experience listed above.)
EQUIVALENCIES:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in any field plus two (2) years of the required experience including one (1) year of supervisory or lead work responsibilities will meet the education and experience requirements.
LICENSES:
- Valid driver's license with good driving record.
- For Transfer Station Positions: Must obtain a Municipal Solid Waste B License issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within probationary period.
- For some positions a Texas class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required at time of application.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Available to work in inclement weather conditions.
- Available to work varying shifts including nights and weekends.
Salary Range
$28.27 - $33.93
The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
