Overview
The Traffic Control Specialist coordinates, manages, and assists in the control and general flow of traffic throughout the City. Works with Departments to minimize the impact of Public Works construction and other projects on traffic flow.
Essential Functions
1 Reviews, evaluates, and provides professional feedback and expertise for Traffic Control plans submitted by Contractors and Engineers for approval; coordinates closures and projects to minimize safety concerns for
pedestrian, worker, and the traveling public.
2 Reviews traffic control plans and barricade requirements which require lane or road closures; makes recommendations that will affect traffic flow; inspects and monitors lane closures to determine that OSHA, TxDOT and City of Dallas traffic safety procedures are followed; coordinates and issues barricade permits.

3 Prepares, develops, and creates responses for City Council on issues related to lane closures and concerns from constitutes; presents data and traffic information concisely and clearly to ensure appropriate measures are taken to solve problems and facilitate successful traffic flow in the City.
4 Responds to contractors and other agencies within the City and with State agencies to resolve and coordinate projects.
5 Reviews special event closures and communicates regulations to the public and other entities; issues citations for violations of the Traffic Barricade Manual; teaches and informs public on traffic control for public events and construction work zones.
6 Handles and directs calls related to project coordination or complaints, inquires, and decisions for changes to plan implementation; develops reports on inspections and related findings to deliver to supervisors and managers; provides data on current projects and compliant standards.
7 Performs all other work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
1 Knowledge of city, state, or federal codes, ordinances, rules, regulations and standards in transportation, streets, and related.

8 Ability to review plans and make competent suggestions regarding traffic control.
9 Ability to provide education and instruction for personnel, community members, other agencies, and the general public.
10 Knowledge of OSHA rules and the Uniform Traffic Code.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE:
- Six (6) years of experience in parking/code/ordinance enforcement, permit issuance, construction management, construction plan examination, or as a building inspector, building contractor, construction superintendent, or safety officer.
EQUIVALENCY:
- Associate's degree in a construction management or engineering field plus four (4) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
- Bachelor's degree, or higher, in a Construction Management or Engineering field plus three (3) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements
LICENSE:
- Valid driver's license and a good driving record
Salary Range
$27.45 - $32.58
The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
