Job Description
The Fleet Wrecker Driver safely operates and drives large trucks and equipment used to manage, maintain, and care for the City's fleet of vehicles and other automotive equipment.
Essential Functions
1 Operates wrecker to transport vehicles and equipment to various City of Dallas departments in a safe and timely manner; ensures effective delivery services to maintain uninterrupted services and fleet operations; reads and follows maps or routes.
2 Loads and unloads transported equipment adhering to all safety precautions and standards; drives to and from various locations across the City to assist with broken down vehicles, accidents, or other situations in compliance with safety regulations.
3 Maintains accurate records detailing activities and vehicle or equipment actions taken to provide customer departments with an accurate record of actions taken.
4 Writes, drafts, and files daily reports, and maintains a record of the times and equipment delivered to keep the supervisor informed of the activities performed; tracks mileage, maintenance, and other daily work reports.
5 Performs routine truck preventive maintenance by keeping the vehicle clean, checking fuel lines, conducting simple fuel tests, and checking for any equipment leaks; ensures all safety precautions and standards are maintained for effective use of equipment.
6 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge And Skills
1 Knowledge of traffic laws and safety regulations.
2 Knowledge of simple arithmetic, measuring, and weights.
3 Knowledge of basic techniques on loading and unloading procedures.
4 Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees and customers.
5 Ability to large wrecker equipment and vehicles.
6 Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
7 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

$24.39 - $27.71

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience
- Two (2) years of experience operating wreckers.
- Valid driver's license with good driving record.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) at time of application.
- Safely operate a conventional tow truck in relocating vehicles from one location to another.
- Ensure safety compliance to include vehicle strapping and engagement, the use of dolly equipment, wheel jacks and vehicle security.
- Know and understand safety procedures for picking up and moving vehicles in high traffic areas.
