Danbury Parks and Recreation is seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Team Leader to oversee a specific group of campers and counselors at our youth summer camps. The Team Leader will work closely with the Site Director and Assistant Director to ensure a fun, safe, and organized experience for campers aged 6-12. This role is ideal for someone with experience in youth programs who enjoys mentoring staff and engaging directly with children in a recreational environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesGroup Supervision: Lead and supervise a designated group of campers and counselors, ensuring smooth execution of daily activities and schedules.
Activity Facilitation: Plan and lead group-specific games, crafts, or sports, adapting activities to suit camper interests and abilities.
Staff Support: Mentor and guide counselors within your team, providing feedback and assistance to maintain high morale and performance.
Camper Care: Monitor camper behavior, address minor conflicts, and ensure all participants feel included and supported, escalating issues to the Site Director or Assistant Director as needed.
Safety Enforcement: Uphold camp safety policies, including headcounts, activity transitions, and basic first aid, reporting any incidents promptly.
Parent Interaction: Communicate with parents during drop-off/pick-up or regarding minor updates, fostering positive relationships under leadership guidance.
Team Collaboration: Work with other Team Leaders and staff to coordinate camp-wide events, such as special programs or field days.
Education & Experience: High school diploma required; prior experience (1 years) in camps, youth recreation, or group leadership strongly preferred.
Skills: Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage both children and peers effectively.
Certifications: CPR and First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain prior to start date).
Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors, participate in active play, and lift up to 20 lbs. as needed.
Background Check and Drug Screen: Must pass a drug screen, criminal background check and provide at least one reference.
Energetic and approachable personality with a love for working with kids.
Ability to stay calm and solution-focused in a busy environment.
Team player with a willingness to take direction and contribute ideas.
